2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe: Road Test and Review

We recently had the opportunity to test drive the 2024 Wrangler 4xe. Needless to say that we were immediately impressed! Due to the iconic Jeep model's evolution towards electrification, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe allows us to tackle off-road obstacles with just as much motivation, but with a clearer conscience!

Jeep Wrangler 4xe: Interior and Exterior Design  

Even before stepping inside this mid-size SUV produced by Jeep, it’s impossible not to admire its dynamic and appealing exterior design. The seven-slot grille remains prominently visible, albeit narrower, with added texture.

This change results in a more modern exterior while staying true to the iconic elements of the Wrangler. The design itself remains rooted in its heritage, with a boxy silhouette, broad fenders, sturdy bumpers, and high ground clearance.

Being the 2024 plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe model, we had the only trim available for this version, the Unlimited, with four doors. Our model sported a stunning Earl Grey exterior color, paired with a black interior. The result was simply striking!

This plug-in version also features bluish accents on the exterior and same color stitching on the seats, enhancing their luxurious look. The dashboard has been revamped, featuring a new horizontal display.

The result was so amazing that we couldn’t wait to start our adventure!

Cabin Design and Onboard Features

Once comfortably seated, we confirmed that while the cabin space is somewhat confined, it has been developed to maximize space. Headroom is generous, and the interior delivers a warm atmosphere.

The dashboard is rather close, and some controls seem less easily accessible; but despite this impression, they remain straightforward and user-friendly. The driving position is elevated, allowing us to have a better look at the road and its obstacles in our path.

As for the onboard features, this 2024 Wrangler 4xe is equipped with the latest iteration of the Uconnect system featuring a 12.3-inch screen, which offers improved image resolution.

Depending on the trim and selected features, you might find onboard:

Technical Specs of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe  

Before turning the key and starting our engine for the road test, we wanted to learn more about the technical specs of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe.

Being a plug-in hybrid model, the 4xe features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, combined with two electric motors and a 17.3-kWh battery. This setup delivers a net output of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Moreover, the hybrid powertrain allows for up to 35 km on fully electric mode and offers a total hybrid range of 592 km. Therefore, you can complete daily journeys, such as commuting to work or running errands, without using a single drop of fuel. Fuel consumption rates at 13.7 / 9.6 L/100 km (city/highway).

As for towing capacity, it reaches 1,588 kg (3,500 pounds). But our test model was also equipped with a powerful but optional Warn winch, capable of pulling up to 8,000 pounds!

Given its off-road vehicle vocation, it is equipped with a formidable Rock-Trac 4x4 system as well as a fully floating rear axle. You will also have from 764 to 1,897 liters of cargo space (seats up/folded) to transport your gear.

The spec sheet seemed quite promising...but we still had to confirm our first impressions behind the wheel with our test drive!

The eagerly awaited moment of test-driving our Wrangler 4xe had finally arrived! If you’ve ever had the chance to drive a Wrangler, you know that it’s an experience that is anything but ordinary.

For everyday use, one could criticize this mid-size SUV for its road behavior; but these so-called flaws also add to the charm of the Wrangler 4xe, since it is designed for off-road driving and not for city strolls.

If we keep this in mind, we can then fully enjoy this unique experience of being behind the wheel of a true beast specifically designed to tackle the most rugged trails.

Despite the increase in weight—due to the hybrid powerplant—the road handling characteristics remain nearly unchanged. Additionally, the presence of a regenerative braking system allows us to drive almost exclusively with the accelerator.

Therefore, we are convinced that avid off-road driving enthusiasts will be instantly captivated, just as we were, by the 2024 Wrangler 4xe!

Taking a seat in a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is not done in the same way as one would in a luxurious sedan created with comfort in mind. But its vocation is not the same!
